Braiding Sweetgrass for Young People Book Club
Ages: 9+
Time: 9:30 – 10:25
Room: Room A
Max. Students: 7 Additional Class Fee: $5
Together, we will explore the book Braiding Sweetgrass for Young Adults: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants by Robin Kimmerer, adapted by Monique Gray Smith. This is a beautiful adaptation of the adult version of Kimmerer’s book. Much of the writing is the same, just paired down, with lovely illustrations and extra supporting info, such as key vocabulary definitions and thought-provoking questions. Together, we will dive deeper into this book through discussions, activities, and outdoor experiences, as well as the possibility of an optional field trip outside of class time if families are interested.
Students must purchase or borrow the book from the library. Before each class, students need to complete the assigned reading (1-2 short chapters). For this class, learners should be able to read and write independently. Please contact me with questions or if your learner needs accommodations before registering.
Parents and (quietly self engaged) siblings are welcome to stay in the room but are not required to stay.
Class Leader: Rachel
